My own mom last month - Happy Mother's Day Mom!

We know you’ve marked your calendars, you’ve been holding your breath and you don’t need this reminder, but just in case you’ve been living under a rock — White Rock Local Market’s “stuff + food” event is tomorrow, and what better gift could you give your mom on her special weekend than a head of E. Coli-free romaine lettuce?

We put up a little post a couple of weeks ago about the food market (fourth Saturday of every month), and if you missed out then, don’t even think about staying home to watch Saturday morning cartoons and eat Fruity Pebbles this time. You’ll find us hunting for a new road bike for Amy and something fancy for my mom, but don’t miss out on the art, jewelry, clothing, wine, Rain Barrels (you have to check these out), fresh veggies, baked awesomeness, worms, local honey (kid you not on that one, this sweetness comes from surrounding zip codes) and more.

Second Saturday’s are amazing, and this mother’s day weekend, your mom deserves a little bit of amazingness.

The news is out … Rogers Healy is officially off the market, ladies. He and Sadie Murray are tying the knot. Rogers even made Sadie a personalized version of his famous ‘Rogers Healy is My Realtor’ t-shirt.

It’s a PR match made in heaven. Best of luck guys!

The Market was AMAZING! Lots of fabulous vendors – Brandon Pollard was there in full honeybee costume representing the Texas Honeybee Guild, Village Baking Company with their amazing olive bread, Texas Olive Ranch, Windy Hill Oraganics brought only their freshest veggies, and Texas Worm Ranch taught us how to not scream at the site of an earthworm (difficult task for yours truly).

As a special note, one of our absolutely favorite stores, Make (think Handmade and Etsy combined to make a convenient shoppe with the friendliest people you’ll ever meet), will be hosting their 10th annual Urban Street Bazaar during the Art Crawl, so be sure to check their 60+ vendor spread while you’re south of the Trinity.

If you haven’t already seen it, randall180 is selling his latest creation, a desk lamp made from recycled iMac G4 parts, over on Etsy, for a fraction of the price of an iPod. For the moment he has one in stock, but as you can imagine, these sell out quickly, so buy it today or miss out on being the coolest person at your office. Also, it should be noted that this is NOT an Apple creation, just one fan’s recycle job.

1. Add your logo to the WP Dashboard

Tired of seeing that pesky “W” logo every time you log in to make a couple of changes or add a new post? Add your own logo to the dashboard by placing the following code in your functions.php file; it’s sure to look better and might make you smile every time you log on.

2. Get and display the first image from a post

There’s been a lot going around lately about using custom fields to create/display post thumbnails, but sometimes you just want to use the first image from your post somewhere else on your site. Insert the following code into your functions.php file:

Then put this code wherever you want your first image to appear (within the loop of course):

3. Use a different single template based on category

If you want to use a different format for single posts based on the category a post is in, all you need to do is create your template files, put them in a convenient directory, and insert the following code (with your category numbers and file names) in your single.php file.

4. Create a category specific template

Using a different .php template for each category can be even easier than for single posts. Just save your Category template in your theme folder as category-”categoryID”.php. For example, category-2.php would apply to your Category 2, category-3.php would apply to your Category 3, and so on.

5. Use WordPress to detect user browser

Paste the following code into your functions.php file, then create class assignments in your CSS for each browser type. The final result will assign a browser based class to the body of your page depending on which browser is being used to view your site.
